As a Canfitpro certified Personal Trainer and Fitness Instructor, originally from Montreal, based out of Toronto, I believe that everyone has the ability to work out and to pursue their fitness goals with nothing other than their own body weight from the comfort of their own homes. With a background in Social Work & Theatre, I turned to fitness myself, online, during a spell of unemployment, and was shocked to discover that a few simple exercises had the ability to make me smile! Not only that, it gave me the capability to make other people smile too!
I found my greatest inspiration from a YouTube fitness channel, Hasfit, and more specifically from L.A. based Health, Fitness, & Wellness Entrepreneur, Coach Joshua Kozak- Co-Founder and CEO of Hasfit. After working out with him online for 4 years, I reached out to him on Linkedin, and trained with him remotely for a period of 8 months, with a specific focus on creating and launching my own YouTube Fitness Channel, KarinaEM (which has 25 free videos to date). My favourite thing about Coach Kozak, is that whenever I said I couldn’t do something, he just replied, with the following, “No, you just haven’t taken the time to teach yourself”. I constantly refer back to this piece of advice when I am training, or learning something new.
Since training with Coach Kozak, I was a guest speaker for the Community of Bariatric Patients of Southern Ontario (CBPSO), a Kickboxing Instructor for ILOVEKICKBOXING in Thornhill, and a Fitness Teacher for workshops for Centauri Summer Arts Camp for youth aged 12-18. In addition to working for myself, I also work as a Personal Trainer for Toronto based companies, Gentle Motion Fitness, Fithaus, Your House Fitness, and TrainerPro. I train clients in their own homes, condo gyms, and remotely doing a combination of strength based exercises using bodyweight, free weights, resistance bands, and exercise machines. I started teaching Cardio Dance due to the influence of American Dancer, Mark Kanemura, who has led a variety of fun dance classes live on Instagram. Since dancing with him, I began my own live Dance Cardio Fitness classes, which I taught weekly on Facebook and Instagram in the summer of 2020. Mark’s inspiration also paved the way for me to teach virtual weekly Cardio Dance Fitness Classes, for A-Link, and Tamir- both Non-for-Profit Organizations based in Montreal, and Ottawa, that support a wide array of adults who have disabilities. I have taught 2 Low Impact Resistance Training classes for The Gold Centre in Montreal, which is another Non-for-Profit. Currently, I am teaching a weekly Low Impact Virtual Class for L'Arche Daybreak in Richmond Hill, ON. I am also working with Let's Go Fitness, which is an organization that trains trainers who are neurodiverse, and leads virtual exercise programs for the Toronto Catholic School Board. Though I love to dance like a goof and to groove to great music, I adore and practice many diverse streams of fitness, be it, HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), Strength & Resistance Training, Cardio, Kickboxing, walking, or even biking round on the Kay Gardiner Belt Line in Toronto! I am currently exploring Gymnastics and Acrobatics through the Circus Fix Studio based in the East end of Toronto with teacher Edio Silvio.
